Card processing is Stripe’s standard 3% + $0.30 per charge — Holdings doesn’t mark it up. That’s where the money comes from (see the next section).

How we make money

When your customers pay you, not before.

Every time a customer pays one of your invoices with a card, Holdings collects Stripe’s standard 3% + $0.30 per charge — the same rate any Stripe merchant pays. We don’t mark it up. That’s where the money comes from.

If your customers pay by ACH, wire, cash, check, or between Holdings accounts, we make nothing on that invoice — and that’s fine. Bank, books, and invoicing write to each other on the same schema, so the more you get paid, the tighter the whole system runs.

For nonprofits

Fund accounting, included.

Purpose-built for 501(c)(3)s: restricted-fund tracking, grant tracking, and board-ready reports — same free plan as everyone else. Verified nonprofits also get a free public profile, verified badge, and directory listing.

Questions

Straight answers.

Wait — accounting is really free?
Yes. Full double-entry accounting, categorization, P&L + balance sheet + general ledger, bank reconciliation, recurring invoices, custom branding — all included, no monthly fee. Until August 2026 we charged $25/mo for it; now it's on the same free plan as invoicing and banking.
Then how does Holdings make money?
Payment processing. When your customers pay you by card, Holdings takes Stripe's standard rate — 3% + $0.30 per charge — and we don't mark it up. If your customers don't pay you by card (ACH, wire, cash, check, or a transfer between Holdings accounts), we make nothing on that invoice. That's fine — the more you get paid, the more we do.
Is there anything paid at all?
Only the card fee above, and only when a card charge actually clears. No subscription tier, no seat pricing, no feature gates. Dedicated bookkeeping (a human doing your books for you) is a separate service — see /bookkeeping — but the software itself is free.
Is there special pricing for nonprofits?
Fund accounting, restricted-fund tracking, grant tracking, and board-ready reports (like the Statement of Activities) are included on the free plan. Verified 501(c)(3)s also get a free public profile, verified badge, and directory listing. See nonprofit pricing.
Do I need a Holdings bank account to use the accounting?
No. Holdings accounting connects to any bank via Plaid. Your invoicing, payments, and books work regardless of who you bank with. Opening a Holdings business checking account is optional — it's just the tightest experience because the bank feed is instant and reconciliation is native.
Is my money safe?
Yes. Deposits are held at i3 Bank, Member FDIC, insured up to $3M via program banks. SOC 1 Type II certified, PCI DSS compliant, 256-bit AES encryption.
What's the catch?
There isn't one hiding in the footnotes. The catch, if you want to call it one: our revenue depends on you actually getting paid. If you never send an invoice or your customers never pay by card, we don't make money on you. We think that's the right alignment — every feature exists to help you get paid faster.

Try it.

No monthly fee. No credit card to start. Send your first invoice in about a minute.
